Visit Recap

From the time I am writing this it has been about a week since Kaalen has come to visit me in Kansas City. I haven’t seen him since I left school in May and I was so excited we were finally reuniting for a short period of time.

The trip was completely unexpected and last minute. One morning I woke up and received an email from Southwest about a promotion with low airfare using points. I had noticed that I had 5 days coming up that I wasn’t going to be working and figured we should plan a trip. When I put my mind to something I will do anything and everything to make it happen. So, my mom and I decided to book his flight using our points.

Sooo… about two weeks later, Kaalen arrives!

He got in August 12th around 11:30 and to be honest I have no idea what we did that day.

13th:

On Thursday Kaalen and I headed out to the Legends to go see Straight Outta Compton. It was AMAZING (if you haven’t seen it, stop reading and go see it…NOW!) We drove all the way out to the legends which is about a 35-40 minute drive because the movie theatre serves dinner and drinks. When we got there we learned that the VIP services weren’t actually being offered until the actual release date of the movie, which was the very next day. But, we were still allowed to order food and drinks. So we both ordered chicken tenders and what felt like 30 minutes later they finally came with our food. We were about 5 minutes late to the movie but when we sat down it hadn’t started yet. Thank you previews!

14th:

On Friday we decided to go out for my best friend’s girlfriend’s birthday. We went to Power and Light which is basically a club/bar district downtown Kansas City. The first club we went to is a favorite of mine which is Hotel. They typically play good music and have a decent crowd. But… this was a Friday and every time I had gone it had been a Saturday. The night scene was not popping to say the least. After about 30 minutes in Hotel we made our way to Shark Bar and enjoyed a few throwback jams before deciding it was just time to leave. It was a pretty early night for us and I was embarrassed to bring Kaalen to such a boring night out on the town.

15th:

Saturday we decided instead of the night scene we would try the casino. We headed out to my mom and grandma’s to pick them up to join us. Mostly because they give us money to play with at the casino. And who really likes to gamble their own money away! Not me, that’s for sure. So we dropped my grandma off at a smaller casino and Kaalen, my mom and I headed to the plaza for lunch. My mom had a gift certificate at least 10 years old and we decided today was the day we would cash that in! We had a delicious lunch at PF Chang’s. We ordered lettuce wraps as an appetizer, which is a must if you go to PF Chang’s. We also got my favorite, Crab Rangoons which I don’t particularly like from most places but they were pretty tasty. I think for my meal I ordered beef and broccoli which I enjoyed and I don’t remember what Kaalen ordered. After lunch we headed to the mall to play with puppies. Every day since Kaalen’s arrival I had been begging for two things; go to the pool and play with puppies. He wasn’t a fan of either one. But of course I forced him to play with the puppies anyway. And to be honest he low key enjoyed himself. After playing with the puppies we went and picked up my grandma from the casino and all headed to another casino a little further away. My casino luck must have run up because not once did I do well at all. But, I had a lot of fun going and playing different games.

16th:

So my memory is pretty foggy from a couple weeks ago but from what I remember and pictures in my phone, Sunday we went to Arthur Bryant’s. I have eaten here once before but it was takeout. The restaurant is pretty tight and I’m super claustrophobic so I was a little uncomfortable. When we first got there we were waiting outside because the line was so long. Our wait time was probably close to 30 minutes but we were looking at all the picture frames with celebrities eating Arthur Bryant’s along the wall.  The barbeque was great and we had two choices of Arthur Bryant’s sauce to try, original and spicy. I enjoyed the original but to be honest they were both spicy. And I do not particularly like spicy!!

17th:

So the 17th is when the fall schedule started and I was back to work. During the fall I start work at 4 and end around 7:30 p.m. or 8:00 p.m. This was nice because I got to spend most of the day with Kaalen but, we didn’t really get up out of bed until 11:00 a.m. most days. But, while I was away at work my mom would come over and cook dinner and Kaalen would take her car to the gym.

So fast forward to the weekend…mostly because we did nothing special throughout the week. Except, one day we went and played with puppies and it made me want to cry because I want one sooo bad!

23rd:

This was Kaalen’s last full day in Kansas City and of course we were back at the casino. This time we picked up my mom and grandma (of course) and headed out to the Legends to visit Hollywood Casino. Which is a really nice casino and my new favorite spot. I was doing okay but not winning like I wanted to be. Kaalen likes to play blackjack and was doing exceptional. Around 4:00 p.m. maybe 5:00 p.m. we headed over to my cousin Jaime’s for a family BBQ. Which in Kansas City is the norm.

24th:

Monday was just a sad day. This was the day Kaalen was going back home and I couldn’t even take him to the airport because I had to work at 4. It was so hard to get in my car, drive away and know that when I got back home he wouldn’t be there to greet me. It took me many tears and about 15 minutes later to finally drive away. Saying goodbye never gets easily and I have so much respect for people who do long distance relationships over multiple years.

All-in-all we had a great visit. Even though we didn’t do much the time we got to spend with one another was so worth it.

Here’s to hoping we don’t have to be apart for too long!
